Each Wednesday we are issued with the next week's treatment programme. Strangely, times vary every day, so we have to work around appointments - we have to keep our wits about us.
From leaving the unit to arriving back again it takes about an hour - the actual treatment takes but a few minutes of carefully directed radiation.
Each Wednesday we have an additional appointment with the oncologist - he says that if any side-effects are going to appear that they will happen in about the third or fourth week. Fingers crossed that there aren't too many. The main ones appear to be tiredness and diarrhoea, due to the close proximity of the prostate to the bowel.
The radiotherapists and oncologist are very professional, caring people - nothing is too much trouble and no question too trivial.
Next week there are no appointments on Tuesday (not sure why) or Wednesday (public holiday for ANZAC Day), so we'll go home to Kingston on Monday afternoon and return in time for Thursday's appointment late morning.
Today, the Radiotherapy Centre was conducting a computer and phone upgrade so our appointment is tomorrow (Saturday) instead. Normally there are no treatments on weekends.
We are a fifth of the way through, having had seven treatments now. Thirty to go!
