Well - it's the first time in the 24 years we've been in Kingston that I have even had to consider watering the garden in winter. Since we basically live on a sand dune - being so close to the coast - the soil does dry out very quickly. But this year has been exceptional. Not since early April have we experienced soaking rain, so there is no sub-soil moisture at all.
Fortunately we have a bore - there's plenty of good quality underground water quite close to the surface here - but that supply is going to be ultimately affected by the lack of rains around the country. South Australia is close to being drought declared - I think it's the driest year in 93 years - along with many other parts of Australia.
The cities' water supplies are all in diabolical trouble - populations are placing unprecedented pressure on water, so there will have to be further water restrictions come into effect in the very near future - no watering between 10am and 6pm and no washing cars etc etc.

I wish we were even allowed to water with a hose.....we can only bucket water....no hoses, and our Hinze Dam is 92% full. We are suffering because Brisbane has no water!
